Situated near Mammoth Cave National Park, Barren River Lake park sits on 2,187 forested acres next to the 20,000-acre Barren River Lake.
Anglers cast for largemouth, smallmouth and hybrid striped bass in the lake, and 30 more miles of fishing and boating waters can be found in the Green and Nolin rivers. A park marina rents fishing boats.
Three trails meandering through the forest offer easy-to-moderate hikes ranging from two to five miles. Bicycles are permitted on the two-mile trail, which is paved and wheelchair-accessible.
A riding stable rents horses and offers guided trail rides.
Deer, wild turkey, raccoons and squirrels live in the park, and visitors are often treated to glimpses of wildlife as they travel the 3.5-mile entrance road.
Other facilities include a hotel, cottages and 99-site seasonal campground.
