This resort park sits on the eastern shores of Lake Barkley, which with Kentucky Lake forms one of the world's largest man-made lakes. Not surprisingly, water sports and impressive views are among the park's big draws.
Fishing boats, pontoons, ski boats and jet skis are available for rent at a 60-slip marina. Anglers fish for crappie, bass, bluegill and catfish.
The park is a good starting point for canoeists paddling and camping along the 22-mile Little River Canoe Trail, a marked route between Cadiz and the Land Between the Lakes, the170,000-acre forested peninsula that is teeming with wildlife, including white-tailed and fallow deer.
The state park has nine miles of hiking trails, and some are also open to mountain biking. The park also offers a health fitness center with an indoor pool. More of these activities are available just five miles away at the federal Land Between the Lakes, which has 158 miles of trails.
Lake Barkley State Resort Park's facilities include a 78-site campground.
