Kingdom Come State Park, with an elevation of 2,700 feet, is the crowning jewel on the crest of Pine Mountain and preserves 1,283 acres of pristine wilderness.
Some of the most extraordinary rock formations in the state are featured at this park, including Log Rock, a natural sandstone bridge, and Raven Rock, a giant rock exposure that soars 290 feet into the air at a 45-degree angle!
The circular stone gazebo at the park's entrance offers a spectacular view of Black Mountain and the town of Cumberland in the valley below. Black Mountain, with an elevation of 4,400 feet, is the highest point in Kentucky.
The 14 hiking trails that crisscross five miles of rugged mountain terrain provide access to the park's giant rock formations and scenic overlooks. All of the trails are less than one mile in length, but many trail routes may be combined for hikes of varying lengths and difficulty.
Trails are open year-round and the park offers a trail guide.
Little Shepherd Trail is a narrow gravel and blacktop road that extends 38 miles along the crest of Pine Mountain from Whitesburg to Harlan. The road traverses the park near the summit of Pine Mountain and is an excellent route for mountain bikes, hikers and four-wheel-drive vehicles.
The park does not have a campground, but primitive camping is permitted year-round in designated areas. Campers may register at the Gift Shop or with a park ranger and use restroom facilities at the picnic shelters.
Largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, catfish and trout are found in the 3.5-acre mountain lake.
Picnicking, miniature golf and other recreation activities are available.
