Located in the Smoky Hills north of Russell County, Wilson State Park and the surrounding area are home to deer, pheasant, quail, turkey, waterfowl and songbirds.
The reservoir is known for excellent walleye and striped bass fishing. Smallmouth and largemouth bass, channel cat and crappie also challenge anglers.
The one-mile Dakota Trail offers an excellent view of the lake and native Kansas prairie. The newly developed Cedar Trail offers a .75-mile walk on a hardened path for handicap accessibility and ease of walking. There is also the 13-mile Switchgrass Mountain Bike Trail.
Wilson has a beach, marina and modern and primitive campsites. Interpretive programs are offered in summer.
