Prairie Dog State Park skirts the shores of Keith Sebelius Reservoir, considered one of the best fishing lakes in Kansas.
Renowned for its large numbers of wipers, a white bass/striped bass hybrid known for its fighting ability, the 1,700-acre lake also is home to crappie, saugeye (state-record class), bullhead, largemouth bass, and channel catfish.
Pheasant-hunting is especially popular here - Norton is billed as the Pheasant Capital of the World - and hunting is permitted in the 6,500-acre Norton Wildlife Area, which surrounds the lake. Hunters also pursue mule and white-tailed deer, turkey, quail and prairie chickens.
Hiking is permitted through the area and the park offers a 1.4 mile nature trail.
The park has boat ramps, a swimming beach and serviced and primitive campsites. The Hillman School, an 1890's-vintage adobe house, provides an example from the region's homesteading era.
