Pomona State Park's 4,000-acre reservoir is noted for great crappie fishing and record-breaking giant flathead. Anglers also take white bass, wipers, catfish and walleye.
The lake also is popular with skiers. A marina rents boats, and there's a swimming beach with bathhouse.
Hunting and wildlife watching are good in the U.S. Corps of Engineers wildlife area, where 16 miles of trails are shared by cyclists, equestrians and hikers. Within the state park, there is a short nature trail, and visitors enjoy a mix of grassland, woodland and lake environments. Raccoons, skunks, rabbits, squirrels and, occasionally, a bobcat, are seen.
The 500-acre park has both serviced and primitive campsites. During summer, educational programs are offered.
