Kansas' most popular state park, located about 25 miles from Wichita in the scenic Flint Hills, provides recreation on 8,000 acres of water and 4,600 acres of wildlife area.
Hikers and equestrians share a 12-mile trail through open prairie. There are also several other hiking and biking trails in the area.
Cyclists enjoy the park's paved roadways, which offer up to 75 miles of riding.
The park is home to several varieties of squirrels, rabbits, beaver, foxes, lizards, waterfowl and songbirds. A flock of Canada geese resides in the reservoir.
Hunting is permitted in the wildlife area, which boasts wild turkey, prairie chicken, quail, geese and deer.
Anglers take channel catfish, flathead, crappie, white bass, largemouth and smallmouth bass, walleye, bluegiil and sunfish. Fishermen try their luck during trout season, Oct. 15 to April 15.
Park facilities include a 1,100-site campground, five shelter houses, 10 rental cabins, two swimming beaches, a modern marina and a large amphitheater with an indoor-outdoor stage.
Primitive camping is restricted to designated sites.
