Crawford State Park, located on the edge of the Ozarks, embodies the lush, wooded country of southeast Kansas. The area blazes with color when redbud trees bloom in spring and foliage turns in the fall.
The 500-acre park with its 150-acre lake attracts visitors interested in pleasure boating, scuba diving and watching the migrating birds, deer and other wildlife. Fishermen cast for crappie, redear sunfish, catfish, bass, walleye and saugeye.
A five- to six-mile road offers fine views of the lake and is popular with cyclists. An approximately six-mile trail is designated for mountain biking and hiking.
Two nature trails, each about one-quarter mile long, have interpretive stations about the area and wildlife.
Facilities include seven campgrounds, two boat ramps, bathhouses, a marina and a swimming beach. The park also features a visitor center with 175 gallons of aquarium displays, open April-October, and a 1930s Civilian Conservation Corps construction camp.
