The oldest state park in the Pacific Northwest, Heyburn was excised from the Coeur d'Alene Indian Reservation in 1908 by Congress.

Heyburn is an 8,000-acre state park located on the south end of Lake Coeur d’Alene. Of Hwy. 5, it is six miles east of Plummer and 12 miles west of St. Maries.

Cruise boat tours, marina’s, boating, camping and fishing are all popular at the park. Trails for the hiker, horseback rider and bicyclist are found throughout the park.

An 87-passenger cruise boat operates during summer weekends. The boat cruises up the St Joe River, a river that flows between four lakes. Scenic interpretive, catered lunch and dinner cruises are available. The boat is also available for private events.

There are 23 moorage slips at the Chatcolet marina and 42 moorage slips at the Rocky Point marina that are rented and renewed on an annual basis. Public boat launch ramps and parking are available at the Chatcolet, Rocky Point and Benewah Day use areas.

Heyburn has three campgrounds. Hawley’s Landing and Chatcolet are available by reservation. Benewah campground is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Hawley's Landing has 10 tent sites, 42 sites with hook-ups, showers, dump station and public dock. Benewah has 24 tent sites, 15 sites with hook-ups, showers, a public dock and boat launch. Chatcolet has 40 tent sites with no showers.

The park also offers three two-bedroom cottages for rent. They are complete with bath, kitchen, dining area, living room and can sleep up to eight people each. The kitchens have microwaves, coffee makers, cooking utensils and tableware.

Two one-room camper cabins can host up to five visitors each on double futon and bunk beds. Amenities include dining table and benches, picnic table, fire pit and porch swing. Both are near central restrooms and water faucets.

The Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes is one of the most spectacular and popular trails in the western United Sates. There are 73 miles of paved asphalt that are perfect for bikers and in-line skaters. The park offers two convenient trailheads and rental center where you can bike the 3,100-foot bridge/trestle across the St. Joe River for outstanding views of Benewah Lake and the surrounding area.

There are also three day-use areas within the park and all offer group picnic shelters.
