This 103-mile byway originates in Jordan Valley, Ore., and crosses irrigated fields and high plateaus before climbing into the mountains above the Owyhee River.
Juniper woods, grass and sagebrush cover the landscape. The region is especially known for its spring flowers.
Mountain mahogany appears as the byway gains elevation. The descent along the slope of Poison Creek passes through a salt-desert landscape before concluding at Grand View, Idaho.
The North Fork of the Owyhee River Canyon offers a wonderful landscape of soaring cliffs and pinnacles. There are campsites at the North Fork Recreation Site.
The gravel byway requires a full day. No services are available. Pack water and food.
The road closes in winter due to snow, it is usually
closed from late November through March.
