The Snake River winds through Hells Canyon, one of the deepest gorges in North America, providing outstanding recreational activities and spectacular scenery.
This is Nez Perce country with petroglyphs (rock carvings) and pictographs (rock painting).
Hells Gate State Park includes 200 developed acres that border the Snake River. Picnickers and swimmers enjoy the large beach and grassy areas. The hills are perfect for mountain biking, horseback riding and hiking.
Hells Gate Marina has more than100 slips available on a daily or yearly basis. There is also a public boat launch, store, restrooms, and plenty of parking.
The Snake River is great for sailboats, jet boats, power boats and waterskiing. Private outfitters nearby offer rafting, jet boat or dory float trips through this magnificent river corridor.
Anglers come from all around to enjoy the famous steelhead runs in the Snake, Salmon and Clearwater rivers. The steelhead season usually runs through fall and winter.
The park’s 93 campsites are within 100 yards of the Snake River, offering shade trees and grass. Power and water hookups are available at 64 sites.
