Named for its rich red color caused by its high iron-ore content, Red Top Mountain was once an important iron mine.
The park is located on a 1,450-acre peninsula along Lake Allatoona and is ideal for swimming, boating, hiking and fishing.
There are a variety of primitive to developed campsites, as well as cottages and the park's 33-room lodge, with restaurant and meeting facilities.
Nature enthusiasts appreciate the abundant wildlife and the nearby Weinman Mineral Museum. There are three miles of mountain biking trails.
For history buffs, the Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park, Pickett's Mill Battlefield State Historic Site, Chieftains Trail and New Echota State Historic Site (the Cherokee capital) are nearby.
