Vogel is popular during autumn when the Blue Ridge Mountains become a rolling blanket of red, yellow and gold leaves.
There is no better time to hike. Not only does Vogel have 17 miles of hiking, but the Appalachian Trail is nearby.
Cottages, campsites and primitive backpacking sites provide a wide range of overnight accommodations. There is an annual Wildflower Program in April, a Mountain Music Festival in September and lake swimming and fishing in between.
The sturdy cottages remind you that park was originally built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). A CCC museum explains some of the corps' history.
