Freshwater wetlands once covered much of southwestern Sussex County. Trap Pond State Park protects a small part of this swamp's original beauty and mystery.
The park is home to the northernmost natural stand of bald cypress trees in the country.
Pontoon-boat tours are offered weekends in the summer and visitors can rent canoes, rowboats, peddle boats, surf bikes, and kayaks. A boat launching ramp can accommodate small motorized boats for fishing or scenic excursions. Hiking the trails that surround the pond is popular.
Anglers fish for largemouth bass, pickerel and bluegills. A stream that flows into the pond has been designated as a wilderness canoe trail.
The park offers a developed campground with 142 sites, two primitive youth camp areas, two yurts and eight camping cabins.
