Connecticut's largest public beach facility consists of 919 acres of open country on a point between the towns of Madison and Clinton.
Along with two miles of white sand beach, this rural park contains marshlands and fields.
A nature center and short, wheelchair-accessible trails give visitors insight into the valuable wetlands ecosystem. The park is a favorite with birdwatchers, who find endangered piping plovers, ospreys, Canada geese and swans among the avian residents.
The park is a popular camping area. Its 550 campsites include several wheelchair-accessible sites, along with accessible restrooms and showers. A camp store and dump station are also provided. Camping season is from mid-May through mid-October.
Along with swimming and sunbathing, the park is a popular fishing spot. Anglers trying for striped bass and bluefish cast from the beach by night and from the jetties that bracket the beach by day. There is a launch site for carry-in boats.
A bike path runs parallel to the beach.
